There’s a certain kind of magic in the mountains, and Bir has plenty of it. Tucked in the folds of Dhauladhar range, this quiet little town is best known for paragliders cascading the sky — but for me, it has become something more that just a tourist spot. It has become a home
And at the heart of it all is The Bunksters, a cozy hostel nestled amidst open fields and whispering winds, where I’ve had the privilege of being a host.

The Hostel That Became a Storybook
Every day at Bunksters feels like reading a new chapter. You never know who you’ll meet next. A solo traveller seeking solace, an artist looking for inspiration, a group of friends chasing adrenaline — they all come here with a purpose and leave with a piece of this place engraved in their hearts.
As a host, I’ve welcomed people from almost everywhere, and every time someone new arrives feels like the start of a new chapter. We share rooms, yes, but more importantly, we share stories. Around bonfires under stary skies, during lazy breakfasts on the terrace, or over spontaneous jam sessions in the common area — conversations flow as freely as the mountain breeze.
Lessons from Strangers
Some visitors stay for a day. Others go on for weeks. However, every experience leaves a mark — a reminder that we are all always learning, unlearning, and changing. Stripping ourselves of our old patterns and adapting to something new
A Day in the Life
Each morning begins with freshly brewed coffee filling the entire common area with it’s aroma. I wander about the place checking if the travellers are up for a trek or just want to lounge in at the property with books. Sometimes I guide folks to secret waterfalls or help them rent bikes to explore nearby monasteries. Evenings? That’s when Bunksters truly comes alive — with card games, laughter, conversations and random jam sessions in the common area.
The energy changes with the people. No two days are ever the same, and that’s the best part.
More Than Just a Job
Being a host here isn’t just about managing beds and booking systems. It’s about creating a space that feels safe, warm, and a yet magical. It’s about listening, connecting, and sometimes simply being present. Every goodbye is bittersweet, but every new arrival brings a fresh breeze of curiosity and connection.
If You Ever Find Yourself in Bir…
Come say Hi. You’ll find me at The Bunksters, brewing coffee, with a smile on face and warmth in heart. You may stay for a night or maybe longer but either way you’ll leave with more than what you came with- Because here in Bir, life moves slowly but magically and at The Bunksters every stranger is a friend in the making.
