Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway to be Completed by June 2025: Industry Minister Balvantsinh Rajput
In response to queries regarding the development works of Dholera SIR in Ahmedabad district, Industry Minister Balvantsinh Rajput stated that the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway will be ready by June 2025. This project will reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to just 50 minutes.
Under this project, the development of Dholera SIR as a ‘Greenfield Industrial Smart City’ is progressing steadily. The urban planning for the region has been divided into 27 preliminary town planning schemes, out of which work on 11 schemes is already underway. As part of this plan, 50% of the land from the original plot is being utilized for infrastructure and social development, while the remaining 50% is being returned to the original landowners in the form of ‘final plots’.
The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway project has been undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model. So far, investments worth ₹35,984.58 crore have been made across various sectors. The expressway, spanning 110 km, is expected to be completed by June 2025, significantly reducing travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
Minister Rajput also mentioned that the implementation of the project is progressing well, with some works ahead of schedule. He added that the Gujarat Special Investment Region (SIR) Act, 2009, declared Dholera SIR on May 22, 2009, for the development of an international airport. The Dholera SIR includes 22 villages and covers a total area of 920 sq. km. Tenders for construction, including the terminal building and ATC (Air Traffic Control) building, have been issued, and work is underway.
The Dholera SIR project also includes site development, runway construction, taxiways, and other facilities. The region is set to become a major industrial and logistical hub, further boosting Gujarat’s economic growth.
This development is part of the state’s efforts to attract investments and improve connectivity, with the goal of completing major infrastructure projects by 2025.
